DIARY ENTRY 4: Sara McGlashan

White Ferns batting star Sara McGlashan's latest diary entry from the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.

We are currently on the plane flying from St Kitts to St Lucia. This in itself has been an interesting experience so far.

Firstly though, it was great to finish top of the table with a convincing win over Pakistan. Nic Browne picked up the player of the match award for a great bowling spell of four for 15. All of the bowlers executed plans really well which was pleasing as this was a key focus heading into the semi.

Our final night in St Kitts involved a team dinner with our local support staff – two security guards and our liaison officer. It was nice to spend our last night with them, relaxing and chatting over a few drinks.

This morning Jase (fitness trainer) said we couldn’t leave St Kitts without hitting the hills.  So for morning fitness we headed off for a half hour run, of which five minutes was pure burn. The only pleasing thing was the view once we reached the top.

On arrival at St Kitts airport I expected to just check in and wait for the boarding call but this was not to be... Firstly, we had to get off the bus, hand over our backpacks for security check and then get back on the bus. The strange thing was we could take whatever we wanted out of our bags when we got on.

Bizarrely, after 10 minutes of sitting and waiting we were asked to disembark so the security team could scan us with metal detectors.  Another interesting procedure considering we could leave stuff on the bus.

Anyway, we got back on board and drove onto the tarmac and waited for about 20 minutes before our backpacks turned up – so after 45 minutes of sitting and driving around the airport we got the good news that we could board the plane.

This started an emotional time for our support staff and they hugged everyone as we left. They have been brilliant at making our stay in St Kitts a very enjoyable and memorable one.

Our focus now turns to St Lucia where we take on the Windies. This will be a big game with no doubt a good 99% of the crowd cheering for them. They have already beaten the reigning champs England so we will not be taking them lightly.

Well no chance of a nap on this flight. The plane is rattling away and the India team down the back are making a fair bit of noise so I think its time to put the iPod on.

That’s all from me.

Stay tuned
