Elliott pleased to be back

BLACKCAPS all-rounder Grant Elliott is pleased to be back on the team list for the Sri Lanka tour after a long stint on the sideline because of injury.

He missed the entire summer including the inaugural domestic Twenty20 competition the HRV Cup and three international tours on home soil against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia and the ICC World Twenty20 competition in the West Indies because of a debilitating knee injury.

After a lot of rehabilitation and dedication to training, Elliott is back and ready to go. “It feels great to be back,” Elliott said after the Sri Lankan touring team was named earlier today.

He’s currently in Brisbane under the watchful eye of Roger Mortimer, being put through his paces to ensure he is in mint condition for the tour of the sub-continent. “I’m been doing a lot of work with specialist New Zealand coaches and fitness work outdoors which you couldn’t get in New Zealand,” he said.

He joins Brisbane training mates BJ Watling and Kane Williamson, as well as Firebird team mate Jeetan Patel on the tour. Although he’s thrilled to be back in the BLACKCAPS, he’s only got one goal; “To win every game,” he said.
